Hung at a bedroom doorway, above a headboard, or from a rear-view mirror. Peach wood has carried this role in Chinese custom since at least the Han period, long enough that the New Year door couplets were originally written on peach boards.
What it is
A small sword carved from a single piece of peach wood, with seven brass studs set along the blade in the pattern of the Northern Dipper. Finished with a braided cord and a tassel. 180 mm overall — this is the hanging size, not the full-length ritual sword.
Peach wood is not decorative here. It is specifically peach, and it has been specifically peach for a very long time: the paired New Year couplets pasted on Chinese doors today began as 桃符, boards of peach wood, which is where the character in 符 comes from.
Where it is traditionally hung
- In a bedroom doorway, or above the headboard
- From a rear-view mirror
- Beside a bed that faces a mirror — the situation in mirror facing the bed
What we are not saying
We make no claim about protection or effects. It is a carved piece of peach wood with brass studs.
