Feng shui five elements for a stock or coin

Type a ticker or a name — AAPL, TSLA, BTC, 600519, 00700, or Chinese ones like 茅台 and 比特币 — and this reads the five element behind that name, and how it sits across the next five years.

This reads a name for its five element, for entertainment and cultural interest. It is not financial advice and it does not predict prices. If you are after when to buy or sell, this is the wrong page.

Letters, digits or Chinese characters — AAPL, BTC, 600519, 00700, 茅台, 比特币. Case, spaces and a leading $ make no difference.

How it works

  • The element comes from what the name means, or from the zodiac animal, or from the number the name adds to — whichever applies first. The reading tells you which one it used.
  • Chinese characters are counted by strokes (修 9 + 仙 5 = 14), Latin letters by their place in the alphabet (A=1 to Z=26), digits at face value. Strokes are the original form of this method; the letter version is our adaptation.
  • The trigram comes from that same number divided by eight, so two names sharing an element still read differently.
  • A year is read in two layers: the stem, which rules it, and the branch, which says whether the name has a root in it. They are shown separately and never combined into a score.
  • Above the year sits the era: the nine periods run twenty years each, and we are in period 9 (離 Li, Fire, 2024–2043). Years cycle every sixty; periods do not, which is why the same name stands differently now than it did before 2024.

Stroke counts are the strokes in the character as written, not Kangxi strokes. The two differ for simplified characters; schools split on which to use, and this site uses the character as written.

Which school each page on this site runs, and where we depart from tradition, is set out on the method page.
