2027 flying star chart: the 5 Yellow moves north

Published 2026-08-30

The single thing that changes between 2026 and 2027 is where the 5 Yellow lands. In 2026 it sat due south. In 2027 it sits due north — the opposite ninth of the same floor plan. If you moved building work out of the south of your home last year, the south is free in 2027, and the north is not.

That swap is the whole practical content of the year change. Everything else in the annual chart from Xuan Kong (玄空) shifts with it, but nothing else asks you to do or stop doing anything specific.

The 2027 chart

9 Purple takes the center for 2027. The center number had been counting down — 3 in 2024, 2 in 2025, 1 in 2026 — and 2027 is where it wraps back to 9 and starts down again.

Same nine numbers as every year, arranged differently. It is the same chart for every home on earth — the annual chart takes the year and nothing else, not your building’s age and not your birth date. The annual flying star chart will draw any year from 1900 to 2100 if you need to check a date further out.

The only instruction that has teeth

Do not break ground in the north of your home during 2027.

No renovation, no drilling, no digging, no demolition in the northern ninth of the floor plan. That is where the 5 Yellow lands, and it is the strongest instruction in flying star practice.

It is worth following even if you are skeptical of the rest, for two reasons that have nothing to do with belief. It costs nothing — you are being asked to schedule work differently, not to buy anything or move out. And it is specific enough to either follow or not: one sector, one date range, no interpretation in between. Most of what surrounds it in the tradition is far softer than that.

If you deferred work in 2026

The south of your home comes free on 4 February 2027. The 4 Green lands there, which the tradition reads as a study sector and asks nothing of.

The reverse trap catches more people. Work planned for the north — a bathroom refit, digging foundations for an extension, taking out a wall — was unrestricted through 2026 and is the one thing the 2027 chart asks you to move. If the work is already booked for spring 2027 and the north is where it lands, the choice is to bring it forward before 4 February or push it past the boundary into 2028.

The other two worth knowing

2 Black is in the west. The illness star. The tradition asks that the sector stay calm and that you avoid putting someone already unwell to sleep there. If that is already the bedroom and cannot move, the traditional remedy is metal — a brass object, six coins — on the reasoning that metal weakens earth. Stillness does more than the object does.

8 White is in the southeast. The wealth star, and the one sector the tradition says to actively use rather than avoid. Spend time in that room, light it, keep it in circulation. It is the only annual instruction that asks for more of something rather than less.

When the 2027 chart starts and stops

It runs from 4 February 2027 at 09:46 (UTC+8) to the equivalent moment in 2028, which falls on 4 February 2028 at 15:31. That is the start of spring — not 1 January, and not Chinese New Year, which in 2027 is 6 February, two days later.

Those two days matter if you are scheduling around the 5 Yellow. Work done on 5 February 2027 falls under the 2027 chart even though the Chinese year has not turned over yet, and January 2027 still belongs to the 2026 chart with the 5 Yellow in the south. The exact moment moves by a day or so each year, and the times above are computed for UTC+8, so a date near the boundary in another time zone needs converting first.

The Tai Sui restriction for 2027 is a separate rule with its own sectors and its own boundary date, and it also covers digging. Two different schools, two different sets of coordinates, and a renovation plan has to clear both.

Laying it over your floor plan

Draw your plan as the smallest rectangle that contains it, divide that into nine equal squares three by three, then stand in the middle with a compass and work out which square is which direction. The 2026 chart sets out the same procedure in more detail, and it does not change from year to year — only the numbers that go in the squares do.

A missing corner does not move a sector. The grid still has nine squares and the tradition treats the gap as a sector you are short of, which is a separate problem with its own answer.

What the chart does not cover

The restriction is about construction. It is not a rule about which room to sleep in, which chair to sit in, or which door to use. If your bedroom is in the north in 2027, nothing here asks you to move out of it. It asks you not to renovate it that year.

The chart also says nothing about the people living there. It names sectors and asks for stillness in two of them. It promises no result either way, and neither do we.

There is a second, much larger thing also called Flying Star: the natal chart of a building, with mountain and water stars derived from the year the building was completed and its facing on a 24-direction compass. That is a different calculation with a different answer, and we do not compute it. If a source asks for your building’s completion year before giving you a chart, it is doing the natal calculation, and its numbers will not match the table above. The two are not in conflict; they answer different questions.

Where this sits among everything else

The annual chart is the forecast layer. It changes every year and tells you what to leave alone right now. It sits on top of your layout, which does not change, and beside your Kua number — the personal half of Eight Mansions, fixed for you from birth and unaffected by moving house.

A layout problem is not fixed by a good year, and a good Kua direction does not make it safe to drill into the 5 Yellow. Each layer answers a different question, and which one your question belongs to is usually the first thing to settle. For what else turns over when 2027 arrives, and what stays put, the year-change list is shorter than most sites imply.

Both years, worked out

The Home Feng Shui Walk-Through draws the 2026 and 2027 charts in full, gives the method for producing any other year yourself, and puts them beside the room-by-room audit they are meant to be read with — the annual chart tells you which ninth to leave alone, and the audit tells you what to do with the other eight.
